Terrarium for our insects

Terrarium for our insects

Every year when it starts to be spring and the air gets warmer, we create our own little terrarium in the crab department.

The children take buckets and spades with them and go out into the forest and find soil, moss, stones, sticks and everything needed to give the insects a nice place to live. We then decorate the terrarium with what the children have found, and talk about what the insects like and need. The children are engaged. All spring and summer they collect insects which they put in the terrarium and we can study them. Just before the summer holidays, all the insects are released!

The story behind the terrarium is that there was once a child who killed insects. A terrarium was a nice project that could engage the children in respecting and taking care of all living things in nature.
