A few days ago I made a birthday crown
A few days ago I was making a birthday crown when one of the children suddenly sat down next to me.
She asked: "What are you doing!"
I showed off the birthday crown I was making. She asked if she could have the extra pieces of paper which I ended up throwing away.
I answered yes, but what are you going to do with the paper. She said: "I want to play with them and make new shapes".
And you can see the continuation of our conversation in the picture.
Mathematics in play makes children more creative and logical.
Children systematize, classify, sort, compare, measure and orient themselves in space. All of these are forms of mathematics, says Vigdis Flottorp "university lecturer at Oslo University College".
