The caterpillar game
Board game with oral motor exercises.
Oral exercises are important for children who struggle with pronunciation. I often use mouth and tongue exercises with children who have unclear pronunciation. To pronounce sounds correctly, the tongue must be strong and flexible.
Mouth and tongue exercises can be useful for many children, and since you don't know in advance who will struggle with pronunciation, you can start practicing this early, as long as the children think it's fun and are interested.
I have made some games with oral motor exercises that we use in the kindergarten, and when you use games it becomes more fun and motivating to do oral exercises.
How to play the "Caterpillar Game":
- Each player chooses a piece that is placed at the start (the head of the caterpillar).
- You roll the dice in turn, and move the number shown by the dice.
- The color field you come to shows which exercise you should do. Are you coming, e.g. on a red field you must do the exercise that is next to the small red circle at the bottom of the game.
- All the players do the exercises together.
- Whoever reaches the finish line first (the end of the caterpillar's tail) has won.
