How about making a Christmas tree together with the children. Get branches from a solid birch, cut the branches, drill holes and string the branches on an old flagpole.
A little decoration made by and together with children's hands, as well as decorations and tips is CHRISTMAS in the house. NB: You may need a handywomen too, we did.
